It's Penfold's Birthday. He's very excited because he's having a birthday party.  Mossop, Uncle Sooty and Rocket with their humans and Nana and Grandad are all coming to celebrate.

Who is Penfold you ask?

Penfold is a Cockapoo and the friendliest one you will ever meet.

He absolutely adores people and other animals and will say hello to everyone. He loves cuddles and will snuggle up on the sofa with you, putting his head on your legs.

His favourite thing to do is go for a walk and at the park he will run and run and run. He can run very fast. His favourite game is tug. 

Penfold is also very songful. He sings along to the emergency service sirens, he sings when he wants to play, he sings when its tea time and he sings when he wants to go outside.

Penfold lives with his brother Mossop and their humans Jake and Hannah. His favourite spot is curled up on the sofa.

His best friends (as well as Mossop) are Uncle Sooty and Rocket.

Mossop
Would you like to meet Mossop?

Mossop is Penfold's younger brother. He is a Cocker Spaniel.

Mossop gets up to quite a bit of mischief and always wants to be in the middle of whatever is going on. If grandad is filling the dishwasher, Mossop is right there trying to lick the dishes. If nana is cooking in the kitchen Mossop is there waiting to taste test the carrots or the roast beef.

In fact Mossop's most favourite thing is food. He often gets told off for trying to sneak some food off the table. He loves sausages and cheese (but he can only have these as a special treat). He also loves apples, carrots, cucumber and strawberries. Mossop is very clever. He knows that he has to sit on the floor quietly before he is given a treat. The he gobbles it up really quickly.

He is very loyal and loves having ear scratches. So much so he'll put his paw on your hand if you stop, to say keep going.

Other Characters 

Uncle Sooty

Uncle Sooty lives with Grandad and Nana. He is also a cocker spaniel and is the oldest in the family. He can sometimes be a bit grumpy but he secretly loves going on adventures with Penfold and Mossop. He loves chasing his ball. He could do it for hours and hours and hours.

Rocket

Rocket lives with Jake’s brother and his family. Rocket is a working cocker spaniel so he is full of energy and is very strong. He loves going swimming. It does mean he has to have lots of baths because he often chooses to go swimming in muddy water. When he’s had his bath and is sitting on the sofa in his bathrobe he loves you to hold his paw.

Jake and Hannah

Jake and Hannah are Penfold and Mossop’s humans. They love Penfold and Mossop very much and take them on lots of adventures. Penfold love curling up to Hannah on the sofa and Mossop jumps on Jake’s lap to have his ears scratched. Mossop often steals Jake's socks and Penfold brings his toys to Hannah to play tug.

Nana

Nana is Penfold's favourite human. He loves going to Nana's house. She throws the ball for him, gives him lots of treats and even lets him sleep on the sofa.

Grandad

Grandad is Mossop's favourite human. Grandad lets Mossop sit on his knee. Mossop also likes helping Grandad when he is filling the dishwasher.

Rocket’s Family

Rocket has four humans at home, Joe, Justine, Jack and Eva. They all love Rocket very much. Joe takes Rocket for long walks (and lets him go for a swim in the pond), Justine sneaks him tasty treats from the dinner table, Eva plays with him in the Living Room and Jack lets him sleep on his bed.

Officer Charlie

Officer Charlie used to live with grandad and nana. He had a lovely nature and was very friendly. He loved a fuss. He really did help the police capture a thief who had sneaked into the garden. He was a very brave boy.

Teddy

Teddy is a cockapoo, just like Penfold. Teddy is a lot older than Penfold. Penfold sometimes stays with Teddy when his humans are on holiday and sometimes they go for walks together. Teddy enjoys scrambled egg and ham every morning for breakfast.

Sophie

Sophie, is a scared greyhound who meets Penfold, Mossop, Rocket and Uncle Sooty in the park. She soon learns how to have lots of fun.

Vinnie

Vinnie is a rough but kind bulldog who lives around the corner from Penfold and Mossop. Vinnie loves having a nap. It’s one of his favourite things to do. He also loves eating, especially his dinner.

Jock

Jock is a happy dog. He is very furry and friendly. He lives with Hannah's best friend Leoni. He longs to stretch out on the sofa but he's only allowed on the floor.

Obi

Obi, is beautiful grey rabbit. She comes to visit Penfold and Mossop in their garden. She really enjoys nibbling on flowers for her lunch.

Santa Paws

Santa Paws delivers treats to good doggies all around the world on Christmas Eve in his festive airplane. His fur sparkles like snow.

Kitty

Kitty is very aloof. She lives opposite Penfold and Mossop and often sits in their front garden to have a sleep in the sunshine.

Angus

Angus is a very friendly Pointer. He was Penfold and Mossop’s holiday neighbour on their trip to Scotland.

Sky

Penfold met Sky on holiday. She has a beautiful singing voice. Penfold and Sky performed a duet with each other for their humans.

Messy

Messy is the Loch Ness Monster’s cousin. He’s a friendly monster but he has difficulty hearing.

Rev Julia and Little Rev

Rev Julia is the vicar at the local parish church. Together with her cat, Little Rev, she looks after the people in her community. One of her favourite responsibilities is to perform weddings. She’s very busy but always finds time to say hello to everyone.

 
 
The Author
Hannah Clark
Hannah, with her husband Jake, are the proud caregivers to Penfold and Mossop.

Inspired by her mother-in-law, and with the help of her father -in-law, Hannah has written and illustrated a collection of children's books loosely based on the adventures of her two woofers, who together with Uncle Sooty and Rocket get up to all sorts.

In honour of her own mum, who was a wonderful primary school teacher, Hannah has also created a series of early years educational books - the Penfold and Mossop Learn About series, some fun activity books and educational resources.

By day Hannah has a serious job in the legal profession. Writing about Penfold and Mossop's exploits has given her an outlet for her creative side and an opportunity to record some of the memories their two woofers and other family doggos create.

Hannah also gets involved in presenting story times for little ones to encourage a love for reading and exploring new stories.
